OLANGO ISLAND:

• Olango island is in Cebu Province, just offshore from (east of) Mactan Island and Lapu Lapu city. It is known mainly for its wildlife sanctuary but also has some fine beaches and dive sites. The Olango Island Group and six smaller island nearby. The main town and main port is Santa Rosa on the west coast. Much of terrain is mangrove swamp, home to large numbers of birds and also, unfortunately, to many mosquitoes.
• Olango is fairly densely populated 30,000 people as of 2010 in about 10 sq km (4 sq miles) - and is part of Metro Cebu, the country's second-largest urban region. However, it feels distinctly rural; there are no roads wider than two lanes and many are not paved, there are few buildings higher than two storey's and many one-storey nipa huts, quite a few homes lack running water, and various sorts of livestock run loose.
• Olango Wildlife Sanctuary (South end of the Island, in Barangay San Vicente). A wetland area with many water fowl, very popular with bird watchers; close to a hundred species are found here, about half of them migratory and half permanent residents. It is the only site in the Philippines listed by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat.
• Olango Reef. A  government-protected fish sanctuary with good snorkeling, located south of Olango around the smaller islands of Nalusuan and Hilutungan. It is one of the largest reef areas in the Visayas, about 4.5 sq km.

NALUSUAN ISLAND:

• Nalusuan is a man made resort island in the Cebu Strait, the Philippines, and one of the islands comprising the Olango Island Group. The Island, which measures close to a hectare, is situated in between the Province of Bohol and Mactan Island.
• The island was originally and locally known as  "kalusuan"  meaning "a place of penises" in Cebuano. The local fisherman named it as such because the waters surrounding the island is teeming with sea cucumbers, which looked like the male genitalia.
• On May 18, 2009, American swimmer Paul Vanhoven swam unassisted from Mactan Island to Nalusuan in an effort to raise awareness to the damage that dynamite fishermen were causing to local reefs. Management of the Nalusuan Marine Sanctuary have long been trying to protect the local waters from dynamite blasts and over-fishing. Fish populations have rebounded back to healthy levels at the Sanctuary, and large grouper are becoming a common site again.In May 2009, a small nurse shark was sighted at the island, as more top predators return.

• Hilutungan Island Marine Sanctuary is one of the best places for beginners in diving and snorkeling.
• It is a marine life protected area and is the oldest in the province. Due to the conservation efforts, you can observe or experience one of the best collection of marine specie in the province.
• Although it is a protected area, the local government allow tourism in the area. It is open to snorkelers and divers who wish to experience the beauty of the sea world in this tropical part.
• There are numerous dive shops and tour operators that regularly offer services and facilities that will bring to this marine sanctuary.
• Many tourism operators provide service offers to include at least two or three places in a day. This one day affairs may include snorkeling, scuba diving , swimming, hopping on dining at an island's restaurant, among other fun and exciting activities.

SNORKELING:

• Through snorkeling, you can also have an excellent experience with marine life especially with the colorful fishes. Fishes are shy and the best way to attract them is by feeding them with something, such as bread. Don't beso overwhelmed when they start flocking around you and remember not to threaten them by trying to catch any of them.
• Staying on the boat is another way of enjoying the sea and the shallow waters of Hilutungan Island Marine Sanctuary. Because the water is not deep and so clear, you will enjoy watching all sorts of marine animals, such as the giant clams, sea urchins, corals, fishes, octupos, crabs and everything in the water.
